Author: Nebraska State Treasurer John Murante

Independence Day celebrates what makes this nation so special. It is a time for individuals from coast to coast to appreciate the freedoms that those before them have secured, as well as look towards the future to discover how we can expand those freedoms and build upon our independence. On the third anniversary of the Enable Savings Plan, I can’t think of a better time to celebrate financial independence, a freedom every individual deserves.

During my time in office as State Treasurer, it’s been so rewarding to hear stories from Enable Savings Plan Account Owners who have been able to achieve financial independence through the support of the Enable Savings Plan. The impact of the Plan since its inception has been far and wide – to date we have account owners from 39 states, in addition to the state of Nebraska, with 37 percent of the total assets from non-Nebraska Account Owners.

This year alone has been packed with growth, from tax reform expansions to our new account bonus program. In addition, we have enriched our involvement within the disability community, from hosting booths at the Nebraska State Fair and the Autism Society Nebraska Funfest to collaborating on guest blogs with organizations like Best Buddies, Down Syndrome Association for Families of Nebraska and many more.

Our team has made it our mission to help those with disabilities gain financial independence and I couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve done and of the success of Enable to date. I look forward to many more milestones, continued success and the expansion of our impact within the communities we serve. On behalf of the Enable team, I wish you and your family a wonderful 4th of July.
