Winter my favorite time of year – from holiday celebrations to family gatherings, there is lots to celebrate. As you start your winter planning, keep in mind that many of your seasonal expenses may be considered a qualified Enable Savings Plan account withdrawal, so consider putting your funds towards the various approved uses.

Qualified Disability Expenses include basic living expenses and are not limited to items for which there is a medical necessity or which solely benefit a disabled individual. So, what falls under this category? See below for a list of some of the ways Account Owners can use their Enable Savings Plan account funds this holiday season:

Transportation Expenses

Even if you don’t go far, travel expenses – especially during the holiday season –– can certainly add up. Luckily, Enable funds can help lighten the financial load. Accessible parking spot expenses, wheelchair van services and accessible modifications for vehicles are just a few of the approved qualified expenses you can use your Plan funds to cover. If you need accessible travel capabilities, make sure to research resources available within your area to optimize your travel experience.

Housing Expenses

The winter months can often bring on additional expenses, including higher electricity and heating costs – basic living expenses that your Enable funds can cover. And the list doesn’t stop there: rent, property expenses and garbage services are also considered qualified expenses. However, keep in mind that if using Enable funds to cover these costs, they must be paid in full the same month as the distribution to avoid an impact on Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Assistive Devices

From wheelchairs to walkers, hearing aids to communication devices, there are many assistive devices that fall under the qualified disability expense category. See here for a list of the latest assistive device products and reviews to stay in the know.  In addition, make sure to shop around for any holiday discounts on assistive items you may need.

From the Enable Savings Plan family to yours, we wish you a wonderful holiday season.
