Enable Savings Plan Marks First Anniversary

First National Bank Branches, Local Disability Organizations Partner to Celebrate at Outreach Events across Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. (June 22, 2017) – In honor of the one-year anniversary of the Enable Savings Plan, disability organizations will share their stories June 30 at First National Bank branches across Nebraska to celebrate the Enable community, First National Bank of Omaha and Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg announced today.

“Watching the Enable Savings Plan grow since it launched last June has been rewarding,” said Treasurer Stenberg, Trustee of Enable. “Enable is successful in large part because of its strong partnerships with nonprofit organizations, providers, state agencies and First National Bank branches. We thank these partners for supporting Enable and the disability community at large.”

Launched June 30, 2016, the Enable Savings Plan was one of the first national ABLE savings plans offered. Enable provides tax-free savings accounts to people with disabilities, allowing them to save without affecting their public benefits like Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

First National Bank of Omaha is Program Manager for Enable.

“We are excited to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of this community,” said Deborah Goodkin, Managing Director, College Savings Plans, First National Bank of Omaha. “Over the past year, the Enable Savings Plan has been successful in helping individuals with disabilities achieve financial independence. We continue to see account ownership increase daily, and while we have account owners in 37 states in addition to Nebraska, we look forward to expanding our reach and seeing what opportunities next year will bring.”
