Last week, the Enable Savings Plan team had the pleasure of attending the Special Olympics Nebraska 2016 Summer Games Opening Ceremony. From May 18 – 21, Special Olympics Nebraska and the city of Omaha hosted over 1,200 athletes from 110 Nebraska communities. Athletes competed in a variety of events, including powerlifting, track and field and aquatics.

Highlights from the opening ceremony included the Parade of Athletes, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Nebraska, and a performance by country artist Cassadee Pope. At the event, I was fortunate enough to speak with a number of athletes, coaches and families who shared what Special Olympics means to them. Special Olympics seamlessly weaves the power and love of sports with the message of ability, inclusion and awareness.

It was an honor to celebrate the accomplishments of all the athletes, whether in victory or defeat. For as the athletes pledged: Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt. It is the fearless attempt that left our entire team inspired.
